Can my windshield be repaired?

A timely repair can help you avoid the need for a full windshield replacement as long as the damage:

  • Is smaller than a $2 coin
  • Is located in an area outside the driver's view
  • Is at least 4 centimeters from the windshield's edge
  • Consists of less than three chips

Prevent bigger problems down the road

It is largely recommended to act right away to repair your windshield.

Most cracks begin with a chip and gradually worsen over time. That’s why we recommend acting right away to repair your glass. Fixing a chip early prevents it from spreading into a larger crack, which can compromise the safety and integrity of your windshield.

You’ll restore the strength of your windshield and also avoid the bigger job of a full replacement.

5 benefits to repairing your windshield

You’ll pay nothing

If you’re insured for car auto glass repair, the cost is fully covered.

You’ll be safer

Your windshield comprises up to 30% of your vehicle’s structural strength, so it plays a potentially life-saving role.

You’ll save time

It takes Speedy Glass experts only one hour to thoroughly repair your damaged glass.

You’ll avoid a costly replacement

Most cracks begin with a chip, so repair your glass to avoid having to replace the entire windshield later.

You’ll do a solid for the planet

Getting a windshield repaired is a more sustainable option than replacing your entire windshield.

What happens during a windshield repair service?

  1. Inspection of the damaged area

First, we thoroughly inspect the windshield to assess the size and type of damage and determine if a repair is possible.

  2. Cleaning and preparation

The impacted area is meticulously cleaned. This usually involves removing debris and moisture from the crack or chip to ensure the repair materials adhere properly.

  3. Applying the repair resin

We use a high-pressure tool to apply a special resin to the damaged area. This resin is designed to fill the crack or chip, restoring the integrity of the windshield. The type of resin used can vary, but it is typically a clear, strong polymer that bonds with the glass.

  4. Curing and setting the windshield

After the resin is applied, it needs to be cured, usually with ultraviolet light. This process hardens the resin, ensuring it bonds strongly with the windshield and restores its structural integrity.

  5. Final inspection and lifetime guarantee

The last step involves a detailed inspection of the repaired area. Windshield repairs are guaranteed for as long as you own the vehicle, so if a repair later develops a crack, we will deduct the cost from a windshield replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Can I be assured that the chip will not show after the repair of my windshield?

Unfortunately, no.

A windshield chip repair prevents further damage to your glass and restores the structural integrity of the vehicle. However, following a repair, a slight blemish or imperfection where the impact occurred is normal.

The good news is that, in most cases, you’ll notice a big improvement in the appearance of your windshield. In the unlikely event that a crack would form from the repaired chip, we’ll credit the cost of the repair towards a windshield replacement.

Check out the Guarantees section of our website for more details.

Why is it important where on my windshield the impact occurred?

Because it could determine if a repair or replacement is necessary.

If the impact is located in the driver’s line of vision, we might be able to repair the damage; however, since this would affect your visibility, the safer option is likely to replace your windshield.

Also, if the impact is located too close to the body of the vehicle, we won’t be able to use the equipment needed to repair the damage, and the windshield will have to be replaced anyway.

Is it possible to have more than one impact repaired?

We can repair up to three (3) impact points. If your windshield has more than three, its strength is likely compromised, and, therefore, we recommend replacing it for your safety.
